A nod to the seventies kitchens of women like Joan Didion, this hand-made, organically shaped basket is designed to preserve garlic in the kitchen or pantry. It's open-weave and long silhouette mimics the mesh sleeve you might find at the market and is a simple yet indispensable addition to any household. Although they appear delicate with their intricate, lace-like pattern, they are made out of hand-twined pieces of rattan and are quite strong.

Underwater Weaving Studio
Erin and Peggy Pollard

Heavily influenced by the weaving techniques of New England Shaker communities and the indigenous Wabanaki, Underwater Weaving Studio is a basket atelier rooted in rediscovering the traditional craft of basket making. Baskets have always been coveted for their simple forms and durable construction, and while the Shakers made it their mission to honor proper use, seek tight form, and eliminate the unnecessary, Erin and Peggy Pollard (the mother-daughter team behind Underwater Weaving) have created a philosophy of incorporating modern design sensibilities without succumbing to excess. Splitting time between their homes in New York and Maine, Erin and Peggy carry on the tradition of practical simplicity embodied in the Shaker style.
