Growing up in Japan, Mitsuko Siegrist has had a lifelong connection with ceramics. Originally studying Bizen and Shigiraki Ware, Mitsuko-san quickly became drawn to Japan's varying ceramic firing styles, including more contemporary gas-fired ceramic work.
After beginning her study in Chado, meaning 'the way of tea' in Japanese, Mitsuko-san started creating her own ceramics influenced by her tea practice. Her studying of 'the way' is apparent in both the work she produces and her outlook on craft. Each piece has a soul and sensibility that allows the eye to appreciate the food presented and the negative space surrounding it.
The stories she tells through clay are limitless, and she hopes the individual experiencing her work feels the warmth and compassion put into every piece.
