"My focus is to create functional glass objects using furnace glass which are influenced by the glassblowing technical practices and the transformation of memories of the moment captured in the air, movement, lights, and silence of nature.

Let us consider memories and thoughts as personal assets, while viewing the function of physical objects as a means of connecting with others.

By blending both elements within the work, each is tempered; I believe that the resulting "gaps" create an opportunity for someone other than myself to form a personal connection with the piece.

My objective is to keep up the craft practice in order to strengthen the relationship with materials and the natural world. I hope to use the knowledge gained from this practice to create functional glass objects to share the moment (Hitotoki) in the audience's everyday life." Sayuri Fukuda

"私の作品は、吹きガラスの技術研鑽によって、用の美を学びとしています。
また、溶解ガラスという素材の特性を活かし、日常や自然の中に漂う空気・動き・光・そして静寂といった要素に捉えられた「瞬間の記憶」をガラスへ表現することを目的としています。

仮に記憶や思いは個人の財産、物が要する用途は他者と繋がる手段とします。
その双方を作品へ混在させることにより、各々の要素を緩和させる効果がある。そうしてできた隙間から、私以外の誰かが、作品と個人的に繋がれる機会を創りだせると考えます。

素材と向き合いながら自然との結びつきを深めるために、この工芸の学びを継続していくことが私の目標です。そして、制作を通じて得た知見を活かし、人々の日常の" ひととき" に寄り添うガラス作品を創り出したいと考えています。"
