Details

Pulling inspiration from the subtle details of her sake set, we worked with Sayuri Fukuda to design an ideal pitcher for any setting. Japanese for 'float,' the uki pitcher sits atop any surface with a light and airy presence. However, it's the unique spout shape and well-balanced handle that makes this piece really special.

This product was designed in collaboration between Storied Objects and Sayuri Fukuda.

Artist Notes

Sayuri Fukuda

Inspired by nature and landscape, Sayuri Fukudas' work embodies the organic beauty that traditional Japanese glass imbues.

Ever since first studying glass art in Japan, Fukuda-san has emphasized the importance of glass as a functional material, using utilitarian forms as a way to connect her products to the life of the end consumer. Constantly influenced by the contrast of light and shadow, her work reflects a joyful spirit that stands out brightly from the grey surroundings of the Pacific Northwest.

Outside of offering her own line of glassware, Fukuda-san splits her time working alongside multiple glassblowing and Japanese art communities such as KOBO, a Seattle-based gallery located within the historic Japantown district.

Product Care

Hand-blown/furnace-made glass is not resistant to rapid temperature changes. To avoid a break, keep the piece away from dishwashers, open flames, boiling liquids, and drastic temperature changes.

As a general rule, do not stack or store your glass pieces with the weight on the lip.

Always be careful when using chipped or cracked glass. Not handling with care may result in injury.

If the piece is lightly dirty, rinse it under lukewarm water using a soft sponge. If there are oily areas, instead of using only lukewarm water, use a mild dish detergent and a soft sponge to gently clean the piece.

After drying thoroughly, store the piece on a shelf or in a cabinet with good airflow.

To care for sandblasted/frosted glass, clean by gently wiping in circles with a soft microfiber cloth and a mild dish soap solution or a non-ammonia glass cleaner. Always rinse thoroughly with warm water to prevent soap residue from dulling the satin finish.

The porous texture of sandblasted/frosted glass can easily absorb oils. To dissolve stubborn smudges or fingerprints, gently wipe with rubbing alcohol or a mild oil-cutting product on a microfiber cloth.

If the sandblasted/frosted glass looks ashy or dry, apply a tiny amount of mineral oil across the surface and buff thoroughly with a clean, lint-free cloth.
