Introducing the Noir Bowl, a rare collection of one-of-a-kind sculptural vessels by Sterling Collins. Collins crafted each bowl with beautiful functionality in mind, creating forms that offer a distinct appreciation for the material. Made of solid cherry and ebonized to highlight their curated forms, the visible weight of these vessels offers a stark contrast to the physical lightness of their paper-thin walls. One commonality in the collection is Collins' intentional alteration of the forms to highlight the woodgrain—rather than blindly making the material bend to his will, he closely examines each wood blank to ensure its best qualities are brought forward.

Strongly influenced by his background in architectural design, wood artisan Sterling Collins reveals the true potential of solid wood through his pragmatic and intentional approach to design.

When looking around his shop space, you quickly notice that the only qualifying objects in his world are the ones that are both beautiful and essential. Whether it be a serving bowl, spoon, tray, or side table, his works are all imbued with an effortlessness achieved only by someone who has a deep connection to their craft.

Having taught courses at multiple renowned art institutions, Sterling remains committed to sharing his knowledge and passion for woodworking by offering small hand-turning and carving workshops in Portland, Oregon.

Product Care

Avoid using metallic scrubbing pads, harsh chemicals, or acid cleaners when washing woodenware. Lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do.

Avoid soaking the piece in water for extended periods, as this can cause raised wood grain, which is rough and unpleasant to the touch.

If the piece comes into contact with moisture before cleaning, wipe it away with a soft cloth before it can be fully absorbed.

Washing the piece after each use is best to avoid staining and discoloration. Lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do.

Wipe the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth after washing, and dry on a dish rack overnight before storing. Water left on woodenware may cause the wood grain to rise.

If the surface of your piece feels rough or dry after washing, treat it with a food-safe oil or wax product, such as walnut or mineral oil. Reapply regularly with a piece of cloth as needed.

Return Policy

Returns for store credit are accepted within 7 days of receipt or delivery. All valid returns must be in unused condition with attached tags and original packaging.

For online orders, Storied Objects will not accept any returned merchandise without prior written communication and a valid return authorization number. Upon inspection of the returned item, store credit will be provided minus a 10% restocking fee; no refunds.
