Commonly used for specialty sauces, dressing, sake, and tea, the Katakuchi is a common piece of tableware in Japanese households. Beyond its pragmatic form, there's nothing better than cupping the piece in your hands and connecting with its handcrafted nature. Each katakuchi features a warm brown surface with hints of blue from the atmospheric firing.

Jotham Hung

Fragments of broken pots, exploded pieces from the kiln, excess material from the making process—within these 'failures' and accumulation of 'waste', Los Angeles-based ceramicist Jotham Hung sees the opportunity to tell a story.

As a first-generation Taiwanese-American, incorporating ceramic remnants into the surfaces of Hung's work not only highlights the importance of regenerative practices but also the scarcity mindset imbued into the hearts of immigrant families. To deconstruct and reconstruct parts of a whole, originally seen as a means of survival, is now utilized to create emotionally evocative works that reflect the connection between life and art.

With his art pieces showcased in numerous museums and galleries across the United States, we are honored to work alongside Jotham to offer pieces with beautifully humble origins and intended for everyday use.
