Details
I've recently been completely taken by ash as a material. There's something grounding about the light beige color and straight wood grain. Introduced to us by Robert Rurup of Mokko Seishin, these traditional boxes—while originally made in sugi (cedar) or hinoki (cypress)—were well thought out in terms of material and function. Meaning 'box table' in Japanese, Hakozen offered a way to store teaware and dishes, while also doubling as a portable table and tray. In a contemporary home, these boxes are great for storing dry goods in the pantry (ash is a natural desiccant) or for condensing small household belongings in the closet. Stack a few different sizes up, and you can create a beautiful organizational area in the living room.
