Saipua
Sarah & Susan Ryhanen
Striking a balance between purposeful work and enriching experiences, Saipua's New-York-based artist collective informs a world of wild beauty. Meaning 'soap' in Finnish (a nod to their family heritage,) Saipua is made up of two parts; Sarah Ryhanen's naturalist community and a decadent small batch soap brand made by her mother, Susan Ryhanen. Deeply anchored in family and sense of place, in 2011, Sarah founded The Farm at Worlds End, a small-scale diversified homestead farm on 107 acres of ancient Mohawk land. Merging aspects of productive market gardening with permaculture design, it is first and foremost a home to several artists, gardeners, writers, and a modest heard of Icelandic sheep. As Saipua grows and shifts, one thing stays the same; they remain dedicated to creating a greater possibility of equity, beauty, justice, sovereignty, and collective ownership—naturally.
