One of Japan's oldest furnaces, Futagami, is a small and formidable brass foundry that has become synonymous with crafting elegant brassware decor.
With a rich history in crafting Buddhist altar equipment since 1897, the Takaoka-based foundry has since expanded its manufacture to offer modern and timeless homeware products. Using a sand-casting process to produce their hardware—an oft-neglected category in brass—the resulting product is warm and inviting. Through a natural oxidation process, the brass creates a rich patina that gradually changes the character of the pieces over time.
Despite the modern influence to produce products quickly and cheaply, Futagami has maintained its focus on creating quality, handcrafted objects meant to last generations.
